Biography

Ellen Honas (she/they) is an academic advisor for the KU Undergraduate Biology Department. She is an alumni of the University of Kansas, graduating with a B.S. in Behavioral Neuroscience and a B.G.S. in Anthropology in 2018. During her time as a student, she participated in research in the Psychology department, earning a Research Experience Certificate, and worked as a peer educator for Student Money Management Services.

After graduation, Ellen began working as a case manger for Wyandot Behavioral Health Network in Kansas City, KS. She spent four years working with adults dealing with severe and persistent mental illness to help them manage their symptoms, make connections to their community, and live productive, meaningful, independent lives. In this position, Ellen developed a strong passion for helping others find their way and pushing them to reach their full potential. She returned to KU as an advisor to balance her love of academia and passion for supporting others as they discover their own path.

Outside of work, Ellen prefers to spend her time at home playing video games, hosting their weekly D&D game, or watching Star Trek with her partner and two cats, Echo and Grandma. She also loves baking pies for family, friends, and strangers alike while singing along to every part of a musical. When not at home, you can find Ellen at any Lawrence thrift store, searching for odd knick-knacks and the perfect cardigan.
