Biology Advising Information
Students who have officially declared a biology major should meet regularly with a biology advisor once a semester.
Undeclared students who go to the Jayhawk Academic Advising (JAA) for advising are invited to meet with a biology advisor, to discuss biology course details, career options and draft a degree completion plan.
How to Make an Advising Appointment
Our team of advisors can help you understand our different majors, your KU Core requirements, and assist you in selecting courses to complete your degree. Our advisors can also direct you to campus resources and offices to help you succeed at KU.
Students who have been meeting with a faculty advisor, may continue doing so. However, you are always welcome to meet with your assigned advisor. Your assigned advisor will also appear within your myKU Portal.
If you are not currently a biology major but would like to meet to discuss the major, contact Lauren Spain at firstname.lastname@example.org with your available days and times to schedule an appointment.
Making the Most of Your Advising Appointment
To prepare yourself to meet with your advisor:
- Review your up-to-date DPR
- Print and take your Checklist, as well as the appropriate biology degree requirement checksheet, to your meeting.
- Have a plan for the courses you need and want to take in upcoming semesters, keeping in mind that some courses are offered only in the fall or spring and have specific prerequisites.
