UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLAR AWARDS
The Ken and Helen Nelson Opportunities in the Biosciences Award - $1500 – Percy Macek
The Ken and Helen Nelson Opportunities in the Biosciences Award will be presented to an undergraduate student studying biological sciences at the University of Kansas.
Smiley Gilligan Scholarship for Biosciences - $1500 – Johnny Dinh Phan
The Smiley Gilligan Scholarship will be presented to an undergraduate student studying biological sciences at the University of Kansas.
Jenna Robinson Memorial Scholarship - $1000 - Christopher Kywe
The Jenna Robinson Scholarship has been made possible through the generosity of the family of Jenna Robinson. The Fund shall be used to pay for books, laboratory and/or computer equipment, and other fees directly associated with coursework for an undergraduate in the Department Molecular Biosciences in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Lance S· Foster Outstanding Junior in Biology Award - $1000 – Ilia Parish
Through the generosity of the Foster family, the KU Undergraduate Biology Program will present an award to an outstanding KU Junior majoring in biology and planning on further study or work in any area of biology.
Pauline Kimball Prize in Zoology - $500 – Ana Dorador
Through the generosity of Pauline Kimball, the KU Undergraduate Biology Program will present an award to a female or female identifying graduate who is expected to go on to a higher degree in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology.
UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH AWARD
Howieson Biological Sciences Undergraduate Research Opportunity - $1500 each - Collette Wright, Audrey Nelson, Ashmika Behere
The Howieson Opportunity Fund has been established to assist KU undergraduate students who wish to travel to off-campus research laboratories, field research sites, or academic/scientific conferences.
Paul Kitos Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Biochemical Research - $1000 each - Emily Giri, Jessica Pfannenstiel, Cheyenne Loo
This award is used to enhance research opportunities for undergraduate students working in biochemistry.
Nathan B. Parker Ph.D. Student Award in Biology – $1000 - Kent Stiawan
This award was established in memory of Nathan B. Parker, Ph.D., through the generosity of his family and friends. This award gives preference to graduating biology seniors who are pursuing acceptance to a master’s or Ph.D. program in biology or a related field.

Ida H. Hyde Scholarship for Women -$1000 - Catherine Kerr & Kim Vu
The Ida H. Hyde Research Scholarship funds an (upper-class or graduate) woman student in biology to provide an opportunity “…to study in a marine laboratory, or any biological, chemical or physical research laboratory, offering environment and advantages different from those found in the University of Kansas….”
GRADUATE TEACHING AWARDS
Richard H. Himes Graduate Teaching Award - $1000 – Maxim Rodzkin
This award goes to graduate teaching assistants in the Division of Biological Sciences who are studying to graduate with a degree in the department of Molecular Biosciences.
Robert H. Ammar Graduate Teaching Award- $1000 – Sristi Baid
This award goes to an outstanding graduate teaching assistant in Microbiology.
Kenneth B. Armitage Graduate Teaching Award- $1000 – Kevin Chovanec
Sally K. Mason Excellence Award – $500 – Joan Klages
This award recognizes an outstanding graduate teaching assistant in the Division of Biological Sciences.
