Katherine Hanson receives travel award to attend Research Conference
"Receiving a travel award from the Department of Molecular Biosciences allowed me to attend the 64th Annual Drosophila Research Conference which was held in Chicago, Illinois. During the conference, I presented a poster detailing my work in identifying areas of the genome that contribute to zinc toxicity resistance which provided a wonderful networking opportunity to speak and engage with researchers across the world. Through these discussions, I not only received critical feedback on my own work, but I was able to provide feedback and advice on others’ research as well. The conference also hosted professional development events where I was able to ask and learn about different career opportunities and meet with professionals in these areas. Being able to attend the Drosophila Research Conference broadens my scope and knowledge as a researcher, but also lays the foundation of a network that I will utilize during my career."
